Hyper-Fanboy-Internet-Rumor-Super-News-Roundup: 5/28/08

Hey, it’s hard to keep track of all the movies, tv shows, comics, and other nerdtastic stuff that you won’t be seeing for another 2-5 years. That’s why I bring you Hyper-Fanboy-Internet-Rumor-Super-News. This is where I take all those “It’s in development!” or “Hollywood Doosh Bag plays Your Favorite Superhero!” rumors and spit them at you like that Dilophosaurus in Jurassic Park. Get out the 2011 calendar and start circling dates, kids!

INDY 5

– George Lucas told Fox News there could indeed be a fifth Indiana Jones movie. “I haven’t even told Steven or [star] Harrison [Ford] this,” Lucas said. “But I have an idea to make Shia [LeBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison come back, like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.” Will there be more spaceships?

MARVEL

– Speaking to online journalists at Universal Studios, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, confirmed release dates for Marvel’s total domination of superhero box office: Iron Man 2 on April 30, 2010; Thor on June 4, 2010; The First Avenger: Captain America on May 6, 2011; and The Avengers on July 1, 2011.

He also said that theThor movie will take place in Asgard, the mythical Norse realm of the gods, and not in the contemporary real world. I love this move. Let’s pray to Odin that they go totally Lord of the Rings on this flick and make a totally badass fantasy-viking-myhtology movie.

Thor

RUNAWAYS

– Speaking of Marvel, Brian K. Vaughn will be penning the script for the big screen adaptation of his award winning comic book series, Runaways, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Runaways is about a group of teenagers who discover their parents are supervillains and then decide to — wait for it — runaway. Oh, and they got super powers, too! w00t!

TERMINATOR

– According to BBC News, Christian Bale has signed on for 3 Terminator sequels, playing rebel badass John Connor in the fight against Skynet for mankind’s survival. Pesky killer robots. With Bale on board (does this dude ever sleep?) I think the days of the whiney-emo-helpless-mama’s boy John Connor could finally be behind us. The first of the three sequels is slated for release on May 22, 2009.

HIGHLANDER

– And finally, the catchphrase “There Can Only Be One” need no longer apply for the Highlander franchise: The Hollywood Reporter says that Summit Entertainment is developing a remake of the original 1986 cult classic, with Iron Man co-writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway on board to write the script. I personally prefer Duncan MacLeod (played by Adrian Paul in the TV show) over Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert in the film series)  — he actually has, you know, a Scottish accent…
