Just when you thought that he was too busy with the upcoming film, “The Hobbit”, director Guillermo del Toro has decided to throw his hat into the ring to get his hands on Marvel’s own Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Strange.
That’s not it! Not only does he want to direct it, but he wants to put the script into the ever capable hands of the one and only Neil Gaiman. Here is what del Toro had to say when he was talking to Empire Magazine.
“I talked with Neil Gaiman [about writing it],” he tells Empire. “I said, that’s an interesting character because you can definitely make him more in the pulpy occult detective/magician mould and formula than was done in the Weird Tales, for example… the idea of a character that really dabbles in the occult in a way that’s not X-Filey, where the supernatural is taken for granted. That’s interesting… But I wouldn’t use the suit!”
Now this is great news! If this goes through, this could be a very cool take on a character that has always been kind of cliche. Can’t wait to see what happens. Now, who owns the rights? Will Marvel have its way? Time will tell…
OH NO. See, I never thought they’d make a Dr. Strange movie. But if they were going to, I thought “Okay, George Clooney can pull off Iron Man, cause we need Robert Downey Jr. for Dr. Strange.” He would have been PERFECT.
Damnit.

Nice casting, Katie — but how about this:
Daniel Day Lewis as Doctor Strange… Holy shit that would be awesome!
