Jesus is just alright with Nibiru…

You might have heard this already on other blogs but it’s too nerd-tastic to pass up.

From the AP newswire:

The Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, was quoted as saying the vastness of the universe means it is possible there could be other forms of life outside Earth, even intelligent ones.

“How can we rule out that life may have developed elsewhere?” Funes said. “Just as we consider earthly creatures as ‘a brother,’ and ‘sister,’ why should we not talk about an ‘extraterrestrial brother’? It would still be part of creation.”

Ruling out the existence of aliens would be like “putting limits” on God’s creative freedom, he said.

But wait! There’s MORE!

The Bible “is not a science book,” Funes said, adding that he believes the Big Bang theory is the most “reasonable” explanation for the creation of the universe.

Holy CRAP! It’s like having the exec of ExxonMobil say that we really should stop drilling for oil since it’s not really a good renewable energy source!

My favorite quote from all this came from the article’s comments section on Space.com where everyone started to get all metaphysical about the bigger picture meaning of the statements:

As far as Jesus dying for their sins … I wonder if that’s some kind of chore God gave his son, like taking out the trash.

God: Jesus, the people of Zazzu-Zazzu are acting up and need to be saved.
Jesus: Awww Dad…. I just died for the sins of of all the Xaxonians last week!
God: Um son, WHO created the universe?
Jesus: uh, you did…… Ok, I’ll go put on my Zazzu suit now….

  2. This story reminds me of when I was in Catholic school and found out that the nuns from at least one of the schools I attended liked to play with Ouija boards and this was AFTER the nuns had specifically told the parents NOT to let their children play with them because Ouija boards were the devil’s playground. Uh-huh.
