Gather Around The Air Tree

Madrid’s Air Tree

An eco-friendly structure called the Air Tree is under construction in Madrid, Spain. It is designed to be a social gathering place that generates electricity and cools the surrounding area naturally.

The structure will generate electricity using solar photo voltaic cells. The solar panels will generate enough electricity to sell to local energy companies. But the coolest (pun intended) feature of the Air Tree is that inside the structure, trees will be planted on every level. This tower of trees will cool the surrounding area by 10 degrees in the summer — which is sure to make it a popular gathering spot.

The idea of eco-gathering places in the world’s concrete jungles is not new. Besides, what is Central Park? What makes this different, and intriguing, is that it acts as a clean energy provider as well — and takes up much less real estate.

While I’m not too keen on the look of the tower (I’d prefer something more organic, or tree-like, as opposed to the lunar-lander-look it sports now), if it was in my neighborhood, I would for sure be spending my lunch breaks there, wouldn’t you?

If you can read Spanish, check out this website for more pictures and details.
