Celebrating 50 years of… Wait! This just in!

The U.S. celebrated the 50th anniversary of it’s entry into the space race earlier this week. Fifty years ago, Explorer 1 was launched into orbit by JPL and the U.S. Army. The Russian monopoly on man-made objects in space was over. This event lead to the establishment of NASA, the U.S. landing on the Moon, the space station MIR, the International Space Station, Tang, Moon Pies, Space Invaders, The Iron Giant… the repercussions on society as we know it were enormous!

Did you hear ANYTHING about this historic event on television, the news… anything? Nope! Why? On the anniversary of this historic day, Britney Spears has a breakdown and is rushed to the hospital. All other news is pre-empted to give live coverage, analysis, play-by-play and bottom-scrolling-tickertape to the white trash, washed up, just-leave-Britney-alone, pop princess…

God BLESS America! Land of the free and home of the … oh look SHINY!

  1. Good call. Science in general gets NO COVERAGE in our media.
